The approach

This Manhattan Beach home is lived in hard and loved loudly, so we designed it to be both joyful and practical. White walls, light oak floors and simple architecture form a calm backdrop, and each room is then given its own personality through colour, pattern and art, with nothing precious and everything personal.

Gathering spaces

The dining room pairs a long, dark-topped table with cognac leather seating and scalloped blush mirrors under cream pendants. Nearby, the family room keeps things relaxed with deep built-in shelving, leather floor poufs and a colourful flatweave rug beneath an exposed dark beam. For entertaining, a moody bar in near-black cabinetry, with an antiqued mirror backsplash, glass shelving and leather swivel stools, sits on herringbone oak.

Rooms for every day

Upstairs, a seafoam built-in desk runs the length of the study, with striped upholstered benches, brass hardware and vintage Olympic posters. The powder room and laundry share a soft blush palette with woven cabinet fronts and patterned cement tile, while the bedrooms stay quiet with carved, tufted headboards and block-print linens.
